The discovery of the Caves
The systematic research in the area of Frasassi has begun in 1948, thanks to the Speleological Group from Ancona, but only after 1966 searches in the Cave of the river have become more assiduous,until September 25, 1971 when Rolando Silvestri and others members of the Speleological Group of Marche, Italian Alpine Club of Ancona, along the northern slopes of Mount Vallemontagnana discovered a small entrance that led into a tiny room. Nothing special aside from the fact that some cracks in the wall protruding remarkable air flow, a sort of subterranean wind.

After several days of excavations failed to open a narrow and from there to slide toward the edge of a void from which they dropped a stone. The delay of the echo made them realize the depth of the cave, who was calculated over one hundred meters, a cavity which they would then baptized Abyss Ancona. The discovery aroused great enthusiasm among the members of the group, the beautiful Big Cave of the Wind in a little while would be handed at the admiration of man.

Visit the Caves

Nelle grotte la temperatura costante è di circa 14 gradi centigradi.
L'itinerario riservato ai turisti è lungo circa 1500 metri. Avete la possibilità di visitare le grotte tutto l'anno ad eccezione di alcune date particolari come il 1° Gennaio, il 25 Dicembre e dal 10 al 30 Gennaio. Le guide professionali vi accompagneranno lungo il tragitto che durerà poco più di un'ora. L'emozione è unica nel vedere ambienti suggestivi ed inaspettati ove il silenzio è rotto solo dallo stillicidio delle acque.
Quella che segue è una sommaria descrizione, ricordate che nemmeno il migliore degli scrittori potrà darvi l'idea delle emozioni che vivrete visitando la Grotta di Frasassi.
Il visitatore inizia la sua avventura nella Grotta percorrendo circa 180 metri di una galleria artificiale realizzata per agevolare l'ingresso dei turisti. All'interno vi sono tre grandi "porte" che consentono di mantenere inalterate le condizioni d'umidità, e temperatura della grotta condizione necessaria per la sua perfetta conservazione.

"Gola della Rossa" Park
The Regional Natural Park of "Gola della Rossa" and the Frasassi Caves" are the "green heart" of the Marche Region.
Born in September 1997 (Regional Law n. 57 of 02.09.1997), with its 10,026 hectares, is the largest regional protected area and includes the underground complex of Frasassi caves.
A trip in the park is a "journey into the heart of the Marches" to discover the historical and artistic treasures, hidden by landscapes rich in charm and harmony, immersed in an uncontaminated and luxuriant nature. The scenery just described, are inserted in a wider area, that of the Mountain Community of Jesi and Frasassi. The park is an oasis of nature that offers the possibility to make excursions to its many paths, admiring the rich in flora and fauna typical of the pre-Apennines. San Vittore SPA
The particular geological zone gave the area another gem, the baths of San Vittore, using the sulphurous waters of the homonymous source. The water pours clear with temperature of 13 ° C characterized by a strong smell of rotten eggs had a high content of sulfur.
