MACERATA
The city center is Freedom Square with the Municipal Palace (XVII sec.), The beautiful Loggia of the Merchants (XVI sec.) designed by Cassiano di Fabriano and the Clock Tower (1663) from which you can enjoy a panorama exciting. Near are the eighteenth-century Teatro Lauro Rossi, well restored and the University has completed the seventh centenary of life. Not far is Bonnaccorsi Palace, Ricci Palace headquarters of the Art Gallery of Modern Art and the Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy richly decorated with stuccos and marbles. The grandiose Sferisterio, neoclassical building designed for the game of football and bracelet , with a capacity of 7.000 spectators, is now home to various performances and events. Just 3 km, the Roman ruins of Helvia Recina.

THE SFERISTERIO
The Sferisterio was built thanks to the "generosity of 100 nobles" from macerata, created for the ball game (SPHAERA) and for the bracelet, popular sport in the Marches by the fifteenth century until the mid-800. Work began October 2, 1820, lasted until 1829 when finally on 5 September, in an exceptional atmosphere of festival, the Sferisterio was inaugurated. In 1921, for the first time, staged an opera: a special edition of "Aida", commissioned by Count Pier Alberto Conti from Macerata, drew spectators from all over Italy. Since 1967, every summer, opera seasons of Sferisterio recall the most demanding public to applaud the original proposals and impressive cast in a structure monumental but quiet, which guarantees perfect visibility and excellent acoustics.

PALACE MUSEUM RICCI
The Palazzo Ricci Petrocchini, one of the most important of Macerata, now restored to its former glory, is the seat of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio of the Province of Macerata and houses a fine collection of paintings and sculptures of the most important Italian artists of the '900. In the splendid underground, periodically, there are hold exhibitions of high culture.

PALACE BUONACCORSI
The decoration of the Aeneid room in the Palace Buonaccorsi was entrusted to artists from Naples, Bologna and from Veneto, the most important of the early eighteenth century. Simone Buonaccorsi, a nobleman of the province, when he had the title of Count from Pope Clement XI ordered the construction in a few years by the architect Giovanni Battista Contini of this beautiful building, with large inner courtyard, a facade facing the sea, glazed loggias on the first floor and a roof garden. Welcome in the future museums.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA HELVIA RICINA
In the archaeological site, located near Villa Potenza, were discovered documents dating to prehistoric age that showing that the territory had by ricinese inhabited since ancient times. It was Pliny the Elder, Roman scholar of the first century. AD, to mentions for the first time Ricin as a Roman city. Judging from the remains of monumental buildings public and private, and from the discovery of tombstones and inscriptions, the area was inhabited stretches for about 60 hectares, mostly on the left bank of the River Power, the former Flusor.
