Eucharistic miracles in which the sacred particles bleed or the wine of celebration turns into blood represent perhaps the majority. This happens after a sacrilege or a strong doubt as to the mystery. Among the oldest and most famous one has to Lanciano (Chieti), which occurred in the year 750 in the Church of Legonziano. The name seems to derive from St. Longinus, the centurion who converted after having pierced Jesus with his spear. The family of Longinus, according to an ancient legend, was originally from Lanzanum (Lanciano fact) and moved to Palestine. In the Church of San Legonziano a Monk while celebrating the Eucharist was assailed by doubts about the Real Presence of the Lord in the Sacred Species, and so he realized, after the consecration, the host was made flesh and wine blood. Is 'know that the Sacred Host, so converted is still preserved in a glass case, and is part of the muscle of the human heart and the blood belongs to group AB, the same of the Shroud. No need for lengthy explanations to associate this miracle of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross and continuously widened in the same sacrifice in Eucharistic celebrations. A continuation of this ancient miracle followed another equally famous in Italy, that of Corporal of Orvieto. The year is 1263, a Bohemian priest, Peter of Prague is plagued by doubt whenever celebrate Mass. Returning from a pilgrimage to Rome stop in Bolsena, from where he intended to continue until Orvieto city that hosted Pope Urban IV. Maybe the priest had the secret desire to meet the pope and make it part of his torment, but it happened that as he celebrated in the Church of Santa Cristina in Bolsena, called light from the Lord about the truth of the divine sacrifice. Instantly the wafer blessed converted into vividly blood that despite the vain attempts by Don Pedro to conceal it, stained the corporal placed on the altar and the marble floor. The faithful saw the miraculous event and immediately spread the rumor that reached the pope to Orvieto. In the blood stain on the stone, in fact, and in those of Corporal many claimed (and claim) to see the image of the Redeemer. Urban IV sent the bishop of that city to collect the sacred Body and after verifying that the miraculous event promulgated August 11, 1264 (September 8, 1264) the Bull "Transiturus" which established the feast of Corpus Christi. It was decided to build their own in Orvieto (in whose diocese belonged Bolsena) a temple housing the precious relic.
