With the word high water are shown in the Venice lagoon peaks of very high tides, which cause flooding in the urban area. The phenomenon of high water is generated by the combination of two main factors: a contribution that creates alternating regular astronomical tides and meteorological cause, the storm surge, composed of a combination of wind and pressure atmosphere at sea. The high tide by itself does not generate the high water, is the storm surge combined with the astronomical tide brings the water level to rise above normal levels and far less predictable. The rise of water above sea level is a normal phenomenon in a closed basin such as the Adriatic sea and the wind favors is not the Bora common to Venice, but the Scirocco acting in the longitudinal direction over the entire Adriatic sea. |

THE CARNIVAL Its origins are very ancient: the first testimonials is a document of Doge Vitale Falier of 1094, which looks at public entertainment which the word carnival is mentioned for the first time. The history of the Biennale has deep roots, begins when the municipal authorities of Venice, headed by Mayor Richard Wild, act during the board meeting of 19 April 1893 establishing a National Art Biennial Exhibition, to be inaugurated next year. Set in motion the organizational machine, the first exhibition was officially opened April 30 1895. During its hundred year history, the Venice Biennale complement at the International Art Exhibition series of events that are born in the 30s: Festival of Contemporary Music (1930), the Venice Film Festival (1932), the Theater Festival (1934).
