St. Nicholas from Tolentino
He was born in 1245 in Sant'Angelo in Pont (near Fermo). His parents, whose names could be Compagnono de Guarutti e Amata de Guidiani (but the names could simply refer to their places of birth), were pious people. The legend of his life is represented by an unknown painter from the school of Giotto said Master of the Chapel of St. Nicholas, tells how her elderly parents, had traveled to Bari on the advice of an angel on a pilgrimage to the tomb of St. Nicholas of Myra , hoping to receive the grace of a child. When they returned to St. Angelo, had the son desired and claimed that she had received clemency request, they called Nicola.
The young Nicholas entered in the Order of Hermits of St. Augustine.
He distinguished himself in his studies so that, before they were made, was made canon of the church of San Salvatore. Listening to a sermon on a hermit Augustinian Latin at the phrase. "Nolite diligere mundum, nec ea quae sunt in mundo, quia mundus transit et concupiscenzia ejus": "Do not love the world or the things that are in the world because the world is passing and passes its attractiveness", he felt the call to religious life. Then begged the hermit to admit in their order, and his parents consented with joy.
Even before his ordination he was sent to various monasteries of the order: San Ginesio, Recanati, Macerata and others, and biographers make clear that he was a model of selfless dedication to perfection.
He made his religious profession (solemn vote) to less than nineteen years.
In 1269 he was ordained a priest.

After his ordination, preached mainly in Tolentino, where he was moved around 1275. In the convent of Saint Augustine of Tolentino remained until his death in 1305.
He spent the last 30 years of his life, preaching almost every day. Although in recent years the disease began to test his endurance, he continued his mortifications almost to the moment of death. Devotees will recall the gentleness, the naive simplicity and devotion to the Virgin, who never betrayed and keeping prayer and mortification.
